Dear Dalia,
I just heard from David that you never received my letter. The postal service probably knows about it more than I do…
I was impressed by the film: It is made well and the editing is even better.
Still, it is hard for me to say that I enjoyed myself: You yourself saw how difficult it was for me (and probably not only for me) to return to that period in time. I had not even admitted to myself how strongly I had repressed everything. It was only when you asked me about saying goodbye to my father, that I understood that I had virtually erased an entire period from my life, and had not been able to deal with it.
I did notice one thing, that a brief introduction was missing to explain the background to the story. Even here in “enlightened” Caesarea, not only do people not know what the affair of the Children of Teheran was about, they even asked if I was born in Teheran! So you see, you always should take into consideration the historical ignorance in our midst.
By the way, in a conversation I had with my classmates at Givat Brenner, someone suggested the idea of a follow-up film on how The Children of Teheran were welcomed by the kibbutzim, and the ambivalent attitude they received.
Other than the inconsequential comments above, the movie is an excellent one, and blessings are extended to you three.
I hope that our paths may yet cross in the future.
